Marine Faithful, singer and British pop icon, dies at 78

Marianne Faithfull, the British singer, actress, and muse, has died at the age of 78. Faithfull was a key figure in the 1960s London music scene and was closely associated with the Rolling Stones.

Born in London in 1946, Faithfull began her music career in the early 1960s, releasing her debut single "As Tears Go By" in 1964. The song, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, became a huge success and established Faithfull as a rising star.

Faithfull's personal life was also highly publicized, particularly her relationship with Mick Jagger. The two were together from 1966 to 1970 and were considered one of the most glamorous couples of the time.

Throughout her career, Faithfull released numerous albums and collaborated with a range of artists, including David Bowie and Nick Cave. Her music often explored themes of love, loss, and addiction.

Faithfull's later years were marked by health struggles, including a near-fatal overdose in 1969 and a long battle with hepatitis. Despite these challenges, she continued to perform and release music until her death.

Tributes have poured in for Faithfull, with many praising her unique voice, style, and contribution to British music and culture.
