Lawi to release new album showcasing African experience

Renowned jazz musician Lawi is set to break a four-year silence with the release of his highly anticipated Soundtrack album, My Father’s Land, in September.

The Malawian artist recently premiered two tracks from the album, Day Time and Titani Nawo Anawa, on Channel Africa’s Africa Tonight programme. Speaking about thePremiered project, Lawi described it as a heartfelt expression of African stories and traditions.

“I am an African child telling the unheard stories of this continent,” he said. “Africa is beautiful, rich with diverse cultures and traditions that deserve to be shared.”

Music producer Thocco Phiri praised the album’s depth, emphasizing its ability to capture the essence of African life. “Listening to Titani Nawo Anawa, you can tell Lawi is a major force in African music. His lyrics are inspiring and reflect the true African experience,” Phiri said.

Lawi, who started working on the album in 2022, has fully produced it at his studio in Lilongwe under Lawi Group. He expressed excitement about the project’s journey and its upcoming promotional tour across Africa.

“This has been an incredible journey. Malawi is home to immense artistic talent, and we are now taking our music to the world,” he added.

Lawi, also known for his hit song Amaona Kuchedwa, continues to cement his place as a leading voice in African jazz and storytelling through music.
