Tamia ja in dispute with Lingadzi police over withheld funds

Popular Malawian comedian and social  media influencer Tamia Ja, who has over 500,000 followers on TikTok and Facebook, has accused Lingadzi Police of holding onto K1.2 million of her money.

The issue stems from an incident last year when Tamia Ja was arrested over theft allegations. A businessperson had mistakenly transferred K8 million to her account but later accused her of refusing to return the funds. During the investigation, police conducted a search at her residence, seizing her passport and money. While her passport was eventually returned, the K1.2 million remains in police custody.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Tamia Ja took to Facebook, saying, “I have tried multiple times to ask for my money back, but nothing is happening. That’s why I decided to bring the issue to social media, hoping someone can help me.”

She also used her platform to remind Malawians about their rights, stressing that police cannot search private property without a warrant. “In Malawi, warrants must be issued by a judge or magistrate and directed to police officers,” she stated.

The dispute has sparked debate online, with many calling for authorities to address the matter transparently.
